The Cincinnati Bearcats played their second game at the Baha Mar Hoops Summer League against the Calgary Dinos, winning 107-66. Cincinnati beat Victoria 110-63 at the Baha Mar on August 4th. The Bearcats' starting lineup against Calgary seemed to be the "second team" with Trevian Carsion, Akai Fleming, Adlan Elamin, Eric Mahaffey, and Riley Allenspach.
The Bearcats started the game with Riley Allenspach forcing a turnover and Akai Fleming converting on an and-one. The second unit was out there for a short moment before they let the Dinos go on a 6-0 run, forcing head coach Jerrod Calhoun to call a timeout and put in the true starters-- MJ Collins, Elijah Perryman, Tyler Tejada, Jayden Hastings, and Myles Colvin.
The Bearcats would retake that score at the 16:15-minute mark with a score of 15-12, hitting 4 three-pointers on their first 4 attempts, forcing a Calargy timeout. Akai Fleming checked in for Elijah Perryman at the timeout, giving Cincinnati a more offensive look rather than the defensive look that Perryman offers. Colvin would hit back-to-back three-pointers, making him 3-for-3 on the game and the Bearcats 6-for-6. The Bearcats ended the first half making 13 of their 19 three-point shot attempts. The Bearcats led 65-23 at the end of the first half behind a 29-2 run to end the half.
Fleming, Carson, Iweze, Tejada, and Colvin started for the Bearcats in the second half. The Bearcats picked up right where they left off, Fleming getting downhill for a layup and Colvin hitting his seventh three-pointer of the game. Tejada would knock down his 3 third three-pointer, making it 15 threes total for Cincinnati with 17:57 to go in the second half.
The Bearcats tried out a double-big lineup featuring Allenspach and Hastings, along with Mahaffey, Collins, and Elamin. The lineup seemed to work well, although Calgary is more undersized than the average college basketball and Big 12 team.
The Bearcats would finish the game making 20 three-pointers and winning by a final score of 107-66. Colvin led the Bearcats in scoring with 25 points, making seven three-pointers, and had a team-high +/- of 46. Tejada also had a notable performance with 14 points, 4 three-pointers, 5 rebounds, and 5 assists. Fleming led the way with a team-high 7 rebounds, also adding 14 points and 5 assists.
