Among the Bearcats' 12 incoming transfers, Tylen Riley from Tulsa is ranked the highest newcomer. Riley averaged 15.0 points, 3.9 rebounds, 4.4 assists, and 0.9 steals per game last season. Riley appeared in 38 games for the Golden Hurricanes, starting all 38 of them. Riley shot a solid 44.8% from the field, 38.9% from three-point range, and 87.2% from the free-throw line. Riley shoots around 1.5 three-pointers per game, with most of his volume coming from around the basket and the free throw line. Although when he does shoot, they are open and make them at a good percentage.
Before transferring to Tulsa and having a breakout season, Riley spent his freshman and sophomore seasons at California Baptist, where he averaged 2.5 points as a freshman and 7.5 points as a sophomore. Riley averaged 4.4 assists per game, leading Tulsa, but also averaged 2.6 turnovers per game, not a good ratio, especially in the American Conference. Riley likely plays more of a shooting guard role next season, and players like Trevian Carson, Akai Fleming, or Myles Colvin play more of a point guard role. Riley, Carson, and Colvin are all senior guards on the team, so expect them to get the bulk of the playing time next season. All three will likely appear on the court together in some rendition, maybe not as starters, but if Calhoun wants to go small or quick, that is probably the three guards that make the most sense.
The Bearcats currently have 12 roster spots filled for next season and still have 3 available. Who would you want to see the Bearcats add? What position?
